Time really flies. It’s officially my LAST week of school next week! As much excitement I have, I cannot stop stressing myself that there’s still 2 due assignments, 1 continual assessment and ES’s presentation! I took up ES2007 after several great recommendations from my dearest friends with the hopes of equipping myself with beneficial communication skills. Looking back at my nostalgic first post, I’m pretty amazed by the valuable insights gained throughout these 12 weeks of Profession Communication. This module had certainly served its purpose as it has created a whole beginning to effective communication skills.
Communication is definitely not a skill that could be acquired from merely gobbling up the ES2007 textbook or reading numerous amount of communication articles found online. It is a skill which requires one to delve into the fray and learn through action (interaction).
The bits and pieces of effective communication skills learned during ES’s classes had allowed me to have better communication with my teammates. It also allowed me to bring my points and ideas across to my teammates effectively. The process of the survey project trained my skills in several aspects. Drafting the job application letter and resume also made me realise the importance of the 7Cs of effective written communication skills. After all, opportunities are only given based on a well written application letter and first impressions are shoved through the way you’ve portrayed yourself with words.
All in all, I feel that this module is absolutely useful for all undergraduates and would be beneficial to all students. With these lifelong skills equipped, I am now more confident with conveying my thoughts to others while avoiding common pitfalls of communication.

Hi Melissa,
ReplyDeleteDo not be too stressed out, i'm sure your presentation will be done well!
It's great that you've gained a practical application of communication skills besides the 'head knowledge'. I've had a really good time working with you on the project and if our paths cross again in our future careers, i would not hesitate to work with you again!
All the best as you go about your job search, may the lessons you've learnt in ES2007S be put to good use!

Hello Melissa,
ReplyDeleteI agree with you on how the assignments in this course has prepared us for the future. Writing good resumes and job application letters will indeed give your prospective employers a good first impression of you. I hope that you will apply the skills gained in this course to whichever field you decide to enter next time.
All the best!
P.S Do not stress out for the presentation!:)
Hi Melissa,Even i agree with your points that this course has enlightened us with resumes, cover letters and also the 7C's.I am sure that you can apply those what we have experienced in class in real life.
ReplyDeleteGood luck for the future.
Hey Melissa,
ReplyDeleteLianyee also mentioned in her post that this module is absolutely useful for all undergraduates and would be beneficial to all students.
As I was telling her, I took the module because my friends and seniors recommended it. I guess know that we know of the benefits, we can share with our friends and juniors too. =)
All the best!
Hi Mel,
ReplyDeleteIndeed, a knowledge that does not put into practice equals to going down the drain. It is like why we do laboratory sessions after learning the theories in the formal lecture theatres.
Frankly speaking, I took up this course after much consideration (i.e the workload seems quite heavy from the course scedule, my poor command of the language and so on). But it was highly recommended by some of my friends, and on a second thought "yah, that is what the module is all about - effective communication", so I decided to enroll into this course. I would say that I have benefitted quite a lot from this course. Therefore, I may also recommend it to my friends and juniors too! =)
Good luck and all the best for your coming exam and future endeavours! :)
